The amfAR New York Gala held Wednesday was the first opportunity for the nonprofit organization to showcase its partnership with Harry Winston.
The luxury jewelry and watch brand became the first company to serve as the presenting sponsor for the organization’s 27 gala events taking place across the globe over the next three years. These events are used to raise more than half of amfAR’s general operating support, enabling the organization to invest wisely in pioneering AIDS research and programs.

The partnership kicked off with Wednesday’s New York gala held at Cipriani Wall Street. The black-tie event serves as the official kick-off to New York Fashion Week and honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The organization, amfAR, (american foundation for AIDS Research) is dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of AIDS-related public policy. Not including Wednesday’s event, the nonprofit organization said the annual gala has raised more than $15 million that goes to support AIDS research.
Several women in attendance at the gala were adorned with Harry Winston diamond jewelry. In addition, Harry Winston auctioned off a pair of Sunflower Cascading Diamond Earrings, modeled by Heidi Klum, and presented to each of the event’s honorees—Harry Belafonte, Rosario Dawson and Patrick Demarchelier—with a Harry Winston Midnight timepiece.
Harry Winston’s support of amfAR continues beyond the event. It has become a leading supporter of amfAR’s Countdown to a Cure initiative, aimed at developing the scientific basis for a cure for HIV/AIDS by 2020. Harry Winston’s support also will enable amfAR to enter new markets, beginning with the organization’s first fundraising event in Hong Kong in March, 2015.
Since 1985, amfAR has invested close to $400 million in its programs and has awarded more than 3,300 grants to research teams worldwide.
